More Than Just ISET: Over 120 Funding Sources Available for Indigenous Students

When people think of funding for Indigenous students in Canada, the ISET (Indigenous Skills and Employment Training) program often comes to mind. While ISET is an incredibly valuable resource that supports skills development and training, it’s important to highlight that it’s only one piece of a much larger puzzle.

The truth is, there are dozens of other scholarships, bursaries, and funding opportunities available to Indigenous learners—from youth just beginning their educational journey to adults returning to school or upgrading their skills.

Why It Matters

Access to education is a powerful tool for empowerment, self-determination, and economic mobility. But for many Indigenous students, the cost of tuition, supplies, housing, and childcare can create major barriers. The good news is that financial support does exist—you just need to know where to look.

Our Team Has Compiled a Report of Over 120 Funding Sources

We’ve taken the time to gather a comprehensive and growing list of over 120 funding sources specifically for First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students. These opportunities range from national programs and corporate scholarships to local community funds, university-specific bursaries, and support for specialized fields like healthcare, STEM, the arts, and trades.

Some of the categories you’ll find include:

  • Post-secondary scholarships and bursaries

  • Indigenous-specific awards from Canadian universities

  • Provincial and territorial Indigenous student supports

  • Corporate scholarships from banks, tech companies, and more

  • Funding for mature students, single parents, and adult learners

  • Support for apprenticeships and trades training
